What My Kids Taught Me About Christmas

Posted on Posted in Self Development

Christmas is such an awesome time of year…well, it’s supposed to be, and this year it really was for our family.

We are usually so focused on buying gifts, spending more than we have, maxing out our credit cards, preparing traditional foods, etc., that we miss out on what is most important, which is LOVE.

Yes, the birth of our Savior is the most important thing, I totally agree with you there. I also believe it’s about what we can do for others outside of our households, by showing Christ’s love and not focusing on what we want, even though society teaches us to do so.

So this year, my children really taught me something and I wanted to share it with you.

We have five girls, I’m guessing we’ll be blessed with a lot of grandsons LOL but I absolutely love having girls. Our lives are NEVER boring with our young ladies 😉 That’s for sure.

This year, we decided to give to others less fortunate more than we bought for our kids. So we purchased one gift for each of our children, and then the big guy brought one gift each as well.

Christmas gift from SavannahWhat I found was, my children decided to take it upon themselves to make things for each other, and seeing the love put into each gift meant more to me than any expensive present that they could have bought me. Take a look at what I received from one of my girls. It seriously made me smile from ear to ear. They “got” what Christmas was about this year. They saw tears shed as we dropped off gifts to families, they FELT what it was like to do for others and not expect anything in return.

Every stinking year I hear, I want, I want, I want. So I am so thankful we chose to do this this year! They see things in a new light, and we’re already talking about what more we can do for others next year!

What did you guys do for Christmas this year? Hop on over to my Facebook page and share it with me! I’d love to know <3

With Love,
